I always love your book recommendations so much!! It is so cool to see that one of my favorite authors loves to read the same books I do.
I was wondering how Poe got his names. I know names are important to you and this Poe is clearly unrelated to the Poe in The Grace of Wild Things (who reminds me more of a young Wendell)! What is it about that that name that draws you in? Does it have a mythological background?
I swear it’s always the uninvited characters that end up being a reader favorite, and I never know if I should take that as a compliment, because sometimes it does feel like they materialize out of the ether like, “Ugh, foolish writer. You are missing a star here and it shall be ME!” 💀 Like what do you mean after all my careful planning and plotting this guy that just showed up instantly steals the spotlight?!
Poe is just the best! He makes me laugh every time he is on the page, even if it isn’t his intention. I was so excited to see him show up in Otherlands and Compendium. I was very nervous he wasn’t going to make an appearance in Compendium at one point during the novel!
I love The Emily Wilde series so much!! My daughter introduced me to them knowing how much I would love them. I’ve also started reading some of other books I read The language of ghosts and loved it too!! I just finished Compendium of lost tails and I truly did not want it to end. I love this series so much I want to read it again!! Thank you for giving us this beautiful story!!
So strange that you mentioned the app Merlin , I just downloaded it yesterday and was just playing with it before reading this article. So far it looks great.
I'm new to Substack and I am so happy to have found you here! Your books are easily some of my all time favourite reads. I'm also a fellow Islander. Last spring, I went for a hike in some stunning wildflower meadows in Nanaimo and the scenes reminded me so much of your books that I pretty much relayed the entire plot of the series to my husband as we went along. I haven't started the Compendium of Lost Tales yet because I want to be reading it when the wildflowers are back in bloom - nerdy but true. I want to savour it!
Your books also inspired me to create a fairy garden in my backyard that I have been adding to regularly with thrifted, found, and created treasures. It's become something I'm extremely fond of.
Anyway, I just wanted to express my excitement at finding you here, and my appreciation for your work. 🥰
The Emily Wilde series has become one of my all time favorites! I love the world so much and recommend it to everyone I can.
Ah, thank you!

Poe was named for Edgar Allan! It's a reference to the "The Raven" (Poe initially wears a raven skin). But I do also think it's just a cute name.
Agggh! I missed your reply! This makes so much sense. Thank you 😍

So true! It's almost rude!

Ah, thank you! I'm so happy to hear that Poe is popular; I didn't expect it!

It's so great! I use it often.
I’m super excited about the new fantasy book! I must’ve missed the announcement
I must come back to read the Q&A after I finish the last book! I’ve been holding onto it to savor!

Thank you so much! It's so nice to hear from a fellow Islander. I was just admiring some early wildflowers on a hike today :)
I guess that means I can start it next! 🥰
